The Great Flickr Purge

April 15, 2008 | Category: Site News

Since my Flickr Pro account expires on the 16th of April, and since I don’t feel like paying $25 to be censored, I’ve removed all but a small handful of photos from the stream. Many of the removed photos will be coming back to this site in a new gallery that I’m still putting together… stay tuned for more on that… except for my personal photos of friends / people I was dating, or anything I don’t have a signed release for. There’s an excellent chance that some of your favorites might be gone for good. Sorry about that… but I have to respect the rights of the persons in the photos who haven’t given me written permission to use their images as part of my portfolio.

I’m still undecided about what to do with my Flickr account… it
started off as a fun place to post random photos that I took of my friends/places/things. Unfortunately Flickr became more corporate around the time I became more serious about photography. I think if I had it to do all over again, I would have started my own site a lot sooner and avoided the whole censorship issue in the first place.

I haven’t been posting much lately because I’ve been preoccupied with touching up photos for clients and taking some downtime to think about what I want to do next with photography… for instance, I’ve stopped shooting TFCD (Time For CD) with models and started charging for portfolio development shoots. More on that later. I’m also preparing to upgrade to a new computer. I’ve been using an old Powerbook G4 (connected to an external monitor), which I’ll be replacing with a new iMac soon. I’m looking forward to seeing how much faster Photoshop runs… it should really speed up my work-flow!

This website will be getting an overhaul pretty soon. The blog part will be getting a theme refresh and will be more in the background. Visitors to the site will instead see a more traditional gallery with both new and old photos, with links to this blog and a storefront where people can purchase prints / books / etc.  I’m also considering a members only part of the site where I can post some of my more explicit erotica… but I that’s a ways off.
